Oh Ernie!

I’ve never liked Ernie Els.

He’s a) tall, b) fair haired, c) good looking and d) is recognised as having one of the smoothest swings in golf. Let’s just see how I match up in those departments:

a) Nope

b) Nope

c) Nope

d) You’re kidding, right?

So when this happened yesterday on the first hole at the Masters you might have thought I’d have indulged in a bit of schadenfreude (now there’s a word I never expected to use in my blog) at seeing a golfing great laid low:

Well, actually no. Every golfer has had something similar happen to him or her. Just not at the Masters, in front of hundreds of patrons (they’re not called fans at Augusta) and millions of TV viewers.

And did you notice his playing partner Jason Day turn away after the fourth putt, unable to look?

Train wreck, car crash, Meltdown at the Masters – call it what you will, but it was hard to watch.

I love Ernie Els. After all, we now have something in common…

All da best.

Dave B.

Yup – been there, done that (without the crowds or TV, thankfully!)

Me too, Paul. Club championship a few years ago. Six putt on #12. Yikes.

Now don’t be too critical, David. I think I recall you suffering a similar result a few years back. You left every one short! – Gthe SBer

Harsh words but true, Glennie.

Ah Dave! It was a sad sight indeed. My heart went out to one of the all time greats of the game. He’s such a class act. Even in this awful situation, a wave of the hand was all that he permitted himself to show his distress. He’ll always be one of the best in my book. Cheers Dave.

Yes he is, Martin – a class act indeed, on and off the golf course.
